Is the Jetsons Era Really Almost Here?

How AI, Quantum Computing, Fusion Energy, and Robotics Will Combine to Revolutionize the World Within The Next Decade

The latest episode of The Pepper Foster Pulse is a must-listen for anyone interested in the future. Host Jamie Kissell, alongside Nate Caskey, welcomed Damian Smith, founder and CEO of Pepper Foster Consulting, to discuss the revolutionary trends that will redefine business and society over the next decade. Four technologies—Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Quantum Computing, and Fusion Energy—are on the verge of breaking through and combining in ways that will completely change how we live and work. And the pace of change? Absolutely staggering.

AI: Beyond Human Limits

AI has already begun reshaping some industries, but what’s coming next is even more mind-blowing. Current AI models have rapidly evolved from simple text generators to powerful systems capable of animating full-length movies and making complex strategic decisions. And we’re still only scratching the surface.

Right now, AI is limited by its access to computing capacity and energy, and its inability to directly manipulate the physical world. However, recent advances in quantum computing, fusion energy, and robotics mean that AI will soon be free of those limitations and its capabilities will increase exponentially as a result.

Quantum Computing: A Leap Beyond Anything We’ve Ever Seen

If you think today’s computing power is impressive, quantum computing will blow your mind. On the podcast, Damian highlighted Google’s new Willow Quantum chip, which performed a benchmark test in under five minutes that would have taken the world’s fastest supercomputers 10 septillion years to complete. To put that in perspective, 10 septillion years is longer than the universe has existed!

This isn’t just an improvement—it’s a total paradigm shift. Quantum computing will make today’s cryptography obsolete, revolutionize AI capabilities, and solve problems we never thought possible. There are still issues to figure out, specifically quantum computing is prone to errors, but Google also announced in December that Willow can reduce errors exponentially as it is scaled up using more qubits. This cracks a key challenge in quantum error correction that the field has pursued for almost 30 years.

Fusion Energy: The Unlimited Power Source

With all these advancements, one question remains: Where will we get the power to sustain it all? The answer is fusion energy, a breakthrough that will provide virtually unlimited, clean power.

Unlike fossil fuels or traditional nuclear power, fusion energy produces no harmful waste and is on track to become a reality within the next decade. MIT’s Commonwealth Fusion Systems is already constructing a 400-megawatt fusion power plant in the U.S., expected to be online by the early 2030s. I.e. within the next 5 – 10 years. Fusion is therefore on track to remove energy constraints and usher in a new era of unprecedented technological growth.

Robotics: Welcome to the Age of Automation

Picture this: A world where robots cook, clean, and even take care of your garden. According to Damian, humanoid robots capable of performing household chores will be available for the price of a new car in just a decade. General-purpose humanoid robots will be available for controlled environments like factories, kitchens, warehouses, and agriculture farming and food processing facilities even sooner.

This isn’t just theory— there are over 200 extremely well-funded humanoid robot start-up companies across the world. And companies like Tesla, Boston Dynamics, Figure AI, Agility, and many others already have humanoid robots operating in factories, warehouses, and in customer service roles. The moment these robots become accessible to everyday consumers, it will trigger one of the fastest technology adoptions in history, surpassing even the rise of the internet and smartphones.

The Big Picture: A Radically Different World

These four technologies—AI, Robotics, Quantum Computing, and Fusion Energy—are not just incremental improvements. They are game changers that will reshape every aspect of our world. Businesses and governments must start planning for this new reality now, or risk becoming obsolete.

Damian warned that companies need to make sure they don’t get distracted by current political events and start to plan for the tumultuous changes coming over the next decade. Many may need to rethink their entire business models.

The obvious first step is figuring out how they will use AI and robots to reduce costs and increase efficiency. But perhaps more importantly, they also need to consider the broader implications. If AI and robots largely replace human labor, who will have the money to buy their products and services? How will governments generate tax revenue if there is no income to tax? How should businesses be lobbying their governments to do now to prepare for these immense changes?

Are You Ready? The Future is Closer Than You Think

As Damian put it, the next ten years will be a whirlwind of disruption and innovation. Companies and governments that plan ahead can seize unimaginable opportunities, while those that don’t will struggle to survive. The future is coming fast. The question is: Are you ready for it?

Nate Caskey sits down with Virajita Singh, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), to explore what it takes to lead meaningful transformation within a century-old, globally respected museum.
Damian Smith joins Nate Caskey to discuss the technological, geo-political, and social disruptions that are already impacting corporate America and what leaders should do today to prepare.
There is a critical paradox at the heart of the Gen AI revolution. While a select group of organizations are realizing immense value, a new MIT study, "The GenAI Divide: State of AI in Business 2025," finds that a staggering 95% of enterprise AI pilot programs are failing to deliver measurable financial returns. This apparent contradiction is not a flaw in the data but a fundamental insight into the current maturity of the market...
Right at the bottom of the NY Times Dealbook email that went out to subscribers on Saturday August 16 there was a small, almost throwaway piece about some surveys on AI adoption and ROI in business. The survey results show that AI is on the same trajectory as Dot Com was back in the late nineties.
