Opportunity

Three diagnostic healthcare companies mutually recognized a market opportunity to expand their product offerings to direct-to-consumer testing brands, diagnostic testing laboratories, health plans and life sciences companies. By merging into a single entity, the companies could support their growth strategy, while creating operating efficiency and scale. In order to secure these merger benefits, operations leaders approached Pepper Foster for help plan and execute the post merger integration.

Solution

Working closely with operations leaders and their teams, Pepper Foster created a comprehensive merger integration plan to address people, processes, data, and technology.  Pepper Foster’s consultants quickly mapped and assessed high-priority business capabilities and processes, established baselines, identified gaps, and reviewed information architecture. With this foundation in place, Pepper Foster facilitated organizational alignment and team member transition planning workshops with client leaders, emerging with an hour-by-hour Day 1 plan and tactical checklist. Starting 30 days prior to the merger and continuing through the first nine months of merged operations, Pepper Foster’s team managed priority projects on the implementation roadmap:

  • Day 1 Merger & Integration
  • Human Resources Integration
  • Data & Technology Integration
  • Diagnostic Operations Integration
  • Diagnostic Program Deployment & Distribution

Outcome

Within nine months of the merger date, Pepper Foster’s integration plan and operations projects had:

  • Aligned all merged team members in a new organizational model
  • Implemented new job descriptions and compensation bands
  • Integrated revenue-generating operations
  • Unified information technology
  • Implemented a single standard for information security, user identity, and data privacy
  • Delivered the highest volume diagnostic programs in pre-merger company history

There is a critical paradox at the heart of the Gen AI revolution. While a select group of organizations are realizing immense value, a new MIT study, "The GenAI Divide: State of AI in Business 2025," finds that a staggering 95% of enterprise AI pilot programs are failing to deliver measurable financial returns. This apparent contradiction is not a flaw in the data but a fundamental insight into the current maturity of the market...
Right at the bottom of the NY Times Dealbook email that went out to subscribers on Saturday August 16 there was a small, almost throwaway piece about some surveys on AI adoption and ROI in business. The survey results show that AI is on the same trajectory as Dot Com was back in the late nineties.
